MATT RAI
A UK-born, Melbourne-based singer-songwriter, life coach, and founder of the charity Schools for Nepal. After years spent playing in bands, fighting fires in the UK, and living in a van with a cat in Canada, Rai eventually found home - and purpose - in Australia. His debut solo EP, Silence As Bombs Fall Down, strips everything back to just voice and 12-string guitar. Raw, intimate, and imperfectly honest, the record explores stillness, defiance, and the quiet moments that make us human.

No filters, no frills - just raw sound and honest stories.
Matt Rai is a Melbourne-based singer- songwriter, life coach, and humanitarian whose life has been anything but linear. Born in the UK, Rai spent parts of his childhood living in India before returning to study in England. After university, he moved to Canada, where he lived in a van with a cat, worked in a T-shirt shop, and played music in small local venues — chasing meaning, and going easy on the comfort. He’s now a proud dad to two children, River (11) and India (9) — his biggest inspiration and proudest achievements.
Back in the UK, Rai joined several bands while serving as a firefighter for six years, before eventually moving to Australia fifteen years ago. To make ends meet, Rai worked in sales for years — jobs that paid the bills but left him feeling uninspired. That changed when he began dedicating his energy to his passion projects.
After visiting Nepal five times, Rai founded Schools for Nepal, a registered Australian charity that builds schools and provides education for children in rural Nepal. The experience led him to retrain as a life coach, where he now helps others find clarity, purpose, and meaning in their own lives.
Music has always been his constant — a quiet companion through every chapter.
Now, with the release of his debut solo EP Silence As Bombs Fall Down, Rai returns to his roots: raw storytelling, emotional honesty, and songs that sit somewhere between fragility and defiance.
